Mike D's future as a DJ began one night long ago when he brought in his home stereo to DJ one of his Jr. High sock hops. The party was great and Mike fell in love with the idea of making people dance! Some students from area schools were there and asked him to DJ their dances as well. Mike jumped on the opportunity and started his own successful DJ business - Off Center Productions.
As Mike got older he expanded his repertoire to include more musical styles and began doing parties and wedding receptions for Joe Beck Entertainment Plus - one of the best wedding DJ's ever! Working for Entertainment Plus taught Mike a lot of valuable DJ skills including how to get crowds moving and how to read a dance floor. Several of the more experienced DJ’s took Mike under their wing and began to teach Mike how to mix. He fell in love with it and got his first pair of Technics 1200 turntables before he was even out of high school.
Mike loved mixing and house music and was a big fan of Chicago DJ legend Bad Boy Bill. During his time at college Mike honed his mixing style and was the top DJ for all of the major nightclubs at Illinois State
While at Illinois State University Mike began to DJ more and more weddings to help pay tuition. At weddings he found that he loved catering to all age groups with a wide range of musical styles. A packed dance floor full of people enjoying a great party really brought a smile to his face regardless of if it was at a wedding or a nightclub.
After graduating Illinois State in 2001 with an MBA Mike moved to Chicago to pursue a career in the field of finance, all the while still DJ’ing on weekends at weddings or at some of Chicago’s top nightclubs. After working in the finance field for several years and becoming dissatisfied with it Mike became the Entertainment Coordinator for Ala Carte Entertainment and was in charge of private party entertainment for over 20 venues including the legendary Excalibur Nightclub. Mike left Ala Carte in 2005 to continue to expand MDM Entertainment. |
